I had to wait until I calmed down a bit to write about this issue. It turns out there was some sort of storm at my house on Wednesday of this past week. Evidently that storm contained lightening since my cordless phone does not work, my broadband router does not work anymore, and my DirecTV receivers in my house all say “Searching for Satellite”.
I called DirecTV last night and went through the phone tree and finally got to a person. You know what I am talking about, they ask for your information during the initial call and then once you talk to a person they ask for the same information all over again. I am sure there is some reason for this, but that is beyond the scope of this story.
I then asked to speak to a supervisor. I was connected to a supervisor and after explaining my plight to her, she proceeded to tell me that 7 days was not unrealistic as she once went without electricity for 7 days, But wait, I am not calling about electricity. I am calling about television for my family. Television that I pay well over $150 a month for. A firm that I have one business with for several years. I just want to have my television turned back in sooner than 7 days. Nope, she wasn’t budging, so I hung up.
I called back and called customer retention. That gentleman was a little more understanding, but it was almost like they had scripts for people calling up and upset like me. He proceeded to tell me that he once went without TV for 4 days after a hurricane. Am I missing something here? I was not in a hurricane. I had a thunderstorm go through my area. Again, I did not get anywhere and I would have canceled my service on the spot had it not been the $400 early termination fee I was going to have to pay.
Well, I feel better now. Be aware of this if you are someone that is considering going with DirecTV. When things break, it takes several days, in my case a week, to get someone out to look at the issue. I am confident that with cable service it would not take this long, but maybe that is because cable is not as busy?
So, I went ahead and purchased a new multiswitch and had it delivered for Saturday delivery. I am hoping that is the issue, otherwise I will have a spare multiswitch on hand or make eBay a little more money when I list it for sale on eBay.
Perhaps I will get to watch the US Open on Sunday afterall. if not, I will most likely be posting on here.
