After much legal wrangling today, U.S. District Court Judge John Koeltl denied a restraining order request by Wachovia to stop Citigroup from demanding Wachovia stop negotiating a deal with Wells Fargo. The Judge will however hear arguments about whether the exclusivity document between Citi and Wachovia is legally able to stop the planned merger between Wachovia and Wells Fargo.
Separately, Reuters is reporting that Citi is now seeking $60 billion in punitive and compensatory damages from Wells Fargo. No word on when that case will be heard. As of now, there have been no published responses to this claim by Wells Fargo.
I am sure there will be more to follow this week between these three banks.
