Songza The Music Search Engine

Submitted by Tom on Thursday, 26 March 2009No Comment

So I stumbled across another new search engine today.  Songza (songza.com) is a search engine that allows you to enter an artist’s name and it will return a result set that includes music and videos from, or involving, the artist.  For example, I entered David Cook into the Songa search engine and it returned a lot of hits, including from his appearence last year on American Idol as well as a Youtube video of him doing a Valentine’s Day performance in Biloxi, MS.  The interesting twist on Songza is that they forward payments to the publishers, the copyright owner, or the performing rights organization (BMI, ASCAP, etc.).  Evidently they have a business relationship with Youtube.com, as all of the videos I looked at were hosted by Youtube.  Google certainly has the capability to do this as well, but Google results will include all hits.  Songza is nice in that it will only include music or video, and you can even create playlists to listen to your favorites over and over.
