Apple and Verizon may be close to iPhone Deal, really?

So it was reported this week by Information Week's Marin Perez that Apple and Verizon Wireless are in some level of talks about possibly offering an iPhone that would be compatible with Verizon Wireless's network.  If this is indeed true, it is great news.

I would be the proud owner of an iPhone right now, if it weren't for AT&T's exclusivity agreement with Apple.  Rumor also has it that this agreement expires at the end of this year, which is awesome.  I absolutely refuse to do business with AT&T from a wireless perspective.  Their network coverage is abysmal and their customer service is horrible, all reasons why I dropped them like a hot potato about three years ago and went with Verizon Wireless.  I have been a happy customer of Verizon's ever since.

The other hurdle that Apple is most likely trying to contend with is the fact that Verizon's network is CDMA, and not GSM based like AT&T's.  Verizon is planning on rolling out it's 4G network next year, so perhaps Apple will unveil a phone that will be upgradeable to the new 4G standard and support CDMA....who knows.

I will definately have to keep my ears open on this one, cause I will definately buy one of these once Verizon, or any other major carrier than AT&T, offers the iPhone on their network.  Until then, I will just use my iTouch and be happy with that.
