iPhone Coming to Verizon

Now it is going to get interesting in the mobile smart phone business.  It is being reported by CNNMoney and the Wall Street Journal that Big Red (Verizon) is going to finally get the iPhone.  Evidently on February 10th, to be exact.  I anticipate this is going to turn the heat on AT&T, from a revenue perspective, but it is most certainly going to give Google, and their Android OS a run for its money as well.

So for those that have been patiently waiting for Verizon to get the phone, looks like it has finally happened.  Keep in mind, it won't be GSM compatible, like the version AT&T, so if you want to use it over seas, you won't be able to, since it won't have a SIM card in it.  It also in not going to work on Verizon's 4G network, so you won't be able to talk and surf the net at the same time, much like you can on AT&T.  This is clearly for those customers who wanted a choice in carriers, but the experience will not be the same.  Also, it appears Verizon is being mum on what the data plan will cost.

Even Verizon's 4G network won't (initially at least) be able to handle voice and data from the same device at the same time. I think all of those people who have been waiting for the iPhone on the Verizon network may find out it's a "grass is always greener" problem... even though the network is faster they'll still have something to whine about because they won't be able to check email and chat at the same time.

I know most of my friends like to be able to talk and surf at the same time. Verizon may gain traction where AT&T coverage sucks.
